Tallahassee House

In 1965 the dream takes root. The EDUCATION FOUNDATION is chartered by the BPW/Florida membership, partnered with Southern Scholarship Foundation (SSF) and purchases the first scholarship house in Tallahassee, adjoining Florida State University.

This house provided a home to 2,022 undergraduate women during its 12 years of operation. In 1976, this house was sold and a new one, housing 20 students and one House Manager resident advisor each year, was built on Stadium Drive adjacent to the FSU campus, housing students from Tallahassee Community College, Florida State University, and Florida A & M University.

The new house, dedicated in 1977 at a cost of $150,000 was paid in full in three years.

LaQuitta Davis, 2005 House Manager, summed up what she has learned living in a Education Foundation Scholarship House: “I have become more responsible and have learned how to deal with people from differing cultures. I have clearly learned to be more open minded.”
