25 Jan Member Spotlight: Zelda M. Ladan
Ms. Ladan worked in Iran between 1973 and 1978, first as supervisor for the Iranian National Air Force pilot language training school and later as Program Director for a private language school. While in Iran, Ms. Ladan was an active member of the American Women’s Club.
In 1979 she returned to the United States, and accepted the position of International Sales Coordinator for Hodag Chemical Company. In 1981 she joined the sales department of Life Assurance Company of Pennsylvania as agent coordinator and assistant to the President. In 1984 Ms. Ladan moved to Orlando, Florida, and was employed by Merrill Lynch Commercial Real Estate, where she became Director of Research.
In 1986 Ms. Ladan and her husband incorporated Thunderbird Express, Inc., a courier service serving Central Florida businesses and their needs statewide. Ms. Ladan continues to be President of Thunderbird Express.
Ms. Ladan has been active in Business & Professional Women (BPW)/Orlando since 1991, serving in the capacities of local president for three years, as BPW/FL President in 2003-2004, and Editor of the Florida Business Woman magazine from 2005-2008. Ms. Ladan also served for two years as 3rd VP of the Florida Women’s Consortium, an umbrella organization of more than 30 Florida women’s activist groups, and maintained the consortium web site until 2008, when the Consortium discontinued operations.
Ms. Ladan has a long history as a member of the League of Women Voters, first as a member of LWV Orange County (FL) and then as a member, board member, and two-year term as president of LWV Seminole County (LWVSC). Ms. Ladan has served as the Communications Chair for LWVSC for the past 10 years.
Ms. Ladan brings with her a strong creative streak, good organizational skills, a varied work experience, and an ability to motivate by example.
She is the mother of two adult children. Her hobbies include gardening, reading, community service, and information technology pursuits.
