Member Spotlight: Susie Hoffman

My name is Susie Hoffman and I am an admissions recruiter for Troy University. I have been married to my husband Bill for 30 years, we have two grown sons, Billy who is married to his wife Aimee, and Matthew that is currently serving in the US ARMY on his way to becoming a Warrant Officer to fly helicopters. I am also the proud Grandma to a four-year-old grandson named Grant who lights up my life.

For a long time, my husband’s career came first and I was a happy stay-at-home Mom. We moved often for Bill’s work and my resume includes administrative professional work at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, Union College in Schenectady, NY, Georgia Teach in Atlanta, Ga, and Troy University in Tampa, FL.  

When we moved to Riverview, FL in February of 2014 I started once again in the same role I always held at Troy University’s Tampa Bay Support Center. However, this time it was different, TROY was different. I quickly found out that TROY provided a quality online education that working adults could do at home and that was affordable.

At TROY I found more than a job. I found my second chance at the education I always longed to have. I proudly finished my Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science with a minor in Social Science at the age of 46 and on the same day I welcomed Grant into the world. This past July I graduated with my Master of Science in Social Science with a concentration in International Relations which I hope to use to start adjunct teaching next fall. 

I am now a recruiter for TROY and enjoy getting out of the office to attend events, meet people, recruit students, and support TROY in any way I can. I enjoy helping adults find their way back to education or helping them as they continue their education. Hearing stories, especially from women who put their families and husbands’ careers before their own, as I did, makes me feel satisfied when they enroll in classes for the first time in years.

In my spare time, I spend as much time as possible with Grant, help coach his soccer team, and enjoy cooking for my family. My great passion is horse racing and I enjoy following the sales and racing of thoroughbreds and going to the races at Tampa Bay Downs.
