06 Jul Member Spotlight: Kristin Smith
Kristin Smith is a Financial Advisor and Associate Vice President of Investments at the downtown St. Petersburg branch of Raymond James & Associates. She has worked in the financial services industry for over 30 years, with the last 23 years at Raymond James.
She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Eckerd College, attending the PEL Program at night while raising her son on her own after the death of her first husband. She has since also earned designations as a Wealth Management Specialist and as a Retirement Income Certified Professional. Financial planning and investment management can be a fairly challenging field, and one in which women are still under-represented. But Kristin has made helping women in particular a focus of her practice, and enjoys helping others find pathways to achieving their dreams and becoming financially independent.
Kristin lives in Gulfport with her fiancé, Jim, where they are raising his two teenagers, a dog, and three cats. Kristin also has a grown son, Mikel, who works for Raymond James as an analyst in the AML & Financial Crimes department.
Kristin has been a BPW member for about 20 years and has held several different leadership roles at both the local and state level. She currently serves BPW/FL as the Vice President. At the local level, one of her favorite projects has been chairing her LO’s “Unhappy Hour” for Equal Pay Day for 17 consecutive years.
Kristin is also the current Chair of the Board of Trustees for Suncoast Center Inc., a large non-profit that offers a broad range of programs to address emotional wellness, trauma services, and child advocacy throughout Pinellas County. She is also a board member and loan committee chair for Project Prosper, an organization which promotes financial literacy and offers interest-free micro loans to immigrants and refugees in our community.
In her somewhat limited spare time, Kristin’s hobbies include playing golf, riding her motorcycle, growing orchids, reading science fiction, cheering for the Tampa Bay Rays, and traveling.
