In addition to BPW, Dorothy went back to school in 2017 and obtained her license as a Massage Therapy. Following her massage practice, she is teaching Reiki Energy to interested practitioners and completing a 200-hour course in Yoga Teacher Certification.
Previously Dorothy retired in July 2013. She was in the corporate sector for 33 years as an event manager, working for Avon Products, Inc. Corporate Headquarters in New York City. In 1999 she graduated from Queens University of New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, followed by a three-year certification as a Spiritual Counselor and further certification in facilitating a retreat and pastoral training at St. Joseph’s College in Brentwood, New York. She was appointed as Director of the Cursillo Retreat for the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens 2004-2013. She sat on the Pastoral Board for the Bishop of Queens and Brooklyn 2010-2012 and then continued on the Board of Directors for the Sts. Peter and Paul Spirituality Center 2004-2015.
Personally, Dorothy has been a single career woman since her husband died in 1977. She lived in Woodside, Queens, New York for the last 30 years of her time in New York. She enjoys the outdoors and spent most of her leisure time in New York snow skiing, fishing, running, bike riding and dining with family and friends. Now in Florida, her time is spent with early morning sunrise walks with her dog Sal. Spending time as a massage therapist and teacher, which does not feel like work, is a ministry. She enjoys making cards with friends, discovering her creative self, gardening, and the art of listening and conversation.
