What’s interesting or unique about your location for working women?
We meet in Palm Beach Gardens and incorporate the neighboring municipalities of Jupiter, North Palm Beach and West Palm Beach.
What are your meetings and networking activities like?
At the present time we are not holding in-person meetings until it is determined safe to do so due to the spread of COVID-19. We have been conducting regular virtual meetings via video conferencing for members to keep in touch.
What was your most popular or best-attended event in the past year? Do you have special events every year?
All events for 2020 were postponed or not held due the COVID Pandemic. However, we are known in the community for our Annual Suit Drive, which BPW/Gold Coast has been doing for more than 20 years. In fact, 2021 will be our 28th year of collecting gently worn business attire for working women, which now seems to be more of a year-round event. We sort and put together complete outfits from the donations and provide them to local women’s organizations in our area, such as the YWCA’s Harmony House, a women’s shelter.
How does your organization participate in community-wide events?
We partner with other like-minded organizations to co-sponsor events such as Women’s Equality Day and National Business Women’s Week.
What does your organization do to promote political awareness?
In 2020 we held a Zoom meeting, which was also broadcast live on Facebook, to address the proposed constitutional amendments.
What opportunities for personal and professional development do you offer?
Through our monthly program meetings, we attempt to bring in speakers who cover topics of interest to working women.
How do you support scholarships locally?
None, but we do make annual donations to the BPW/FL Education Foundation, which provides housing scholarships to women, either houses on the campuses of FSU and FAU or housing scholarships at St. Petersburg College and to nursing students at the University of North Florida.
How do you reach potential new members in your community?
Facebook and other social media links. Word of mouth and through collaborating with other organizations.
