2017 Glass Ceiling Award: Major Sabrina Maxwell

Established in 1991, the Glass Ceiling Award is presented by the state president to those women who have successfully broken through the barrier of advancement within their profession or organization, enabling them to reach the management level positions previously barred to working women. The recipient of the 2017 Glass Ceiling Award is Major Sabrina Elaine Maxwell of Perry, Fla.

Major Sabrina Elaine Maxwell is a native of Perry, a rural town in north Florida. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Florida A & M University in Tallahassee. Following college, she earned a certification in Law Enforcement from the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy in Havana.

Major Maxwell began her career as a special agent with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation’s Division of Alcoholic Beverage and Tobacco in 1998. Her career includes the ranks of special agent I, special agent II, lieutenant, captain, and her current rank of major. Since being ranked as a major in 2012, she oversees the northern region of Florida, which includes six law enforcement field offices spanning across 46 counties. She supervises 65 sworn law enforcement officers, non-sworn field agents, and administrative staff.

In addition to her college degrees, Major Maxwell is a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute Command Officers Academy. She is a certified Law Enforcement Accreditation Assessor and Criminal Justice Instructor and holds a number of certifications in professional development courses. Due to her expertise in law enforcement and beverage law, she is often called on to serve on agency committees.

Major Maxwell is a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, State Law Enforcement Chiefs Association, Florida Police Accreditation Coalition and the Florida National Liquor Law Enforcement Association. She has received numerous awards and recognitions including Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and Supervisor of the Year. The Major enjoys spending time with her family, shopping and sports.
