Melanie Lenz started with The Tampa Bay Rays in 2006 and was responsible for the design and construction of the spring training facility in Charlotte, as well as, the redesign of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. In December 2014 Melanie was named senior vice president of strategy and development, making her one of the highest ranking women in major league baseball. All of a sudden major league sports were no longer only a guy thing. Melanie met her husband Kurt while an undergraduate at Duquesne University and went on to get her Masters in Urban Planning at the University of Pittsburgh. Before coming to the Rays, Melanie worked for the New York City Economic Development Corporation, where she served as VP, real estate and development. While designing major league baseball stadiums, traversing the sometimes volatile politics of major league baseball in St. Petersburg, Melanie and Kurt had two children, Will and Ben.
