
The 2009-2010 Individual Development Program speak-off will be held during Fall Conference, October 16–18, 2009, in Mt. Dora.
Topics are:
- Fiscal responsibility in our communities & nation what does it mean for BPW & yourself?
- Social Networking is it both Beauty & the Beast?
- What has been the greatest obstacle you have overcome and how did you overcome this adversity?
- Define "community activism" and you as an individual and your LO can help you achieve it?
- With memberships in organizations in decline, what do you think BPW needs to do to remain relevant? How can it meet the needs of its members?
Requirements:
A. To be eligible, a person must:
- Be living, working, training or continuing their education in the area served by the sponsoring local organization conducting the program; and
- Be a member, in current standing, of a local organization; and
- Have completed the Individual Development Program within the preceding 3 years; and
- If applicable, they have met all State Award guidelines; and
- Be the State Winner, Runner-up, or the officially designated representative of the state federation; and
- Support the BPW mission and vision and legislative platform. Individual Development representatives must review the legislative platform and pledge that they will not speak against platform items in their capacities as State Individual Development representatives, if selected.
B. The selection process must include two (2) types of speeches delivered by the participant:
- A 5-minute prepared speech.
- A 2-minute impromptu speech.
Each local or state may select its own topic, unless the state federation program sets the topic for local competition. It is recommended that topics for all levels of competition within a state federation be coordinated. Topics are often based on the current state or national legislative platforms, other BPW advocacy issues and current events.
